Can I sell my chilean bike in Colombia or Brasil or Argentina?

Hi there,

Would like to know if anyone of you bought a bike in Chile and decided is not worth to go back, therefor found any solution to sell it outside Chile. Places I would be interested to sell my great Honda 250 Tornado would be Caracas, Colombia, Rio de JAnero or Buenes Aires. Thank you for any suggestions.

My recommendation is to fire sale it.

Trying to sell it legally in the countries you mentioned would be a nightmare.

I would post an ad on Market Libre and sell it for $1k or less. Include something about the bike being sold for private property use only, or for parts.

You probably paid a good amount for it in Chile, but it is only a 250 and will not be worth the headaches to try and recoup your investment.

I would just drive it back and sell it in Chile. Your other option is transferring ownership to a foreigner who could then take it back to chile and sell it there. But I'm not totally sure of the legality of this. As far as I know, both the seller and buyer need to be present to have the bike signed over.

Another problem is if the bike remains outside of Chile for longer than its temporary exit permit allows, as far as I know, the new owner will be fined when they try to cross back into Chile. Likewise, you might have problems should you try to use the RUT associated with the bike if the bike remains outside of Chile.

I wanted to ride to Mexico but seems like I'd lose a lot of money on the bike so I will sell my Tornado here in Chile, fly to Mex and just buy a cheapo 125 locally. Well, unless someone says it's possible to sell in mex anyway

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
