Cool We quit our jobs, bought dirt bikes, and toured South America

Hey all! I recently returned from a three-month dual sport adventure tour through Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador that I did with my good friend Vadim. The experience, needless to say, was incredible. Everything we expected and more. We had never ridden bikes before, didn't have maps besides the ones we downloaded on our phones, and bought our bikes ($1500 each) in La Paz after a couple days of research in the city (read more about how we did this here).

Our route was a 5000km loop in Bolivia, followed by 3500km through the Andes of Peru, and 1000km through the Sierras of Ecuador (view a map of our route here)

There were so many memorable experiences along the way, including befriending and staying with locals, fixing our bikes with scraps in the middle of the altiplano, and avoiding gunshots after setting up camp in the Andes at midnight. But nothing captures the essence of the trip like the video documentary my friend Vadim put together of our trip. I highly recommend checking it out! You can watch it here: , or click the image below. The motorcycle tour starts at 22:15.

Cheers! And thanks to the forumgoers for all their help along the way.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
