can anybody recommend any clothing for riding around india

Hi

I'm going to india next september to buy an enfield and was wondering if anybody can recommend any jackets that will be suitable for the climate, was just going to buy a safari type jacket but would ideally like something with a bit of protection.

Also full face or open face helmet, which do you reckon I should go with?

I'm going to try and pick up all the gear I need at the UK bike show next month.

any suggestions/advice will be gratefully recieved

cheers James

My friends have just got back from three weeks in Australia, and they chose to go casual - hiking boots (comfy off the bike, but still with decent ankle protection), Draggin' Jeans (again, comfy on and off the bike) and a retro style 'touring jacket' that has removable CE elbow protection. They took their Arai Tour-x helmets as it is nicely vented, but has a visor if the weather (or dust!) gets bad...

I would have thought this sort of 'casual' clothing would be particularly appropriate in a country like India - as there is so much to see away from the bike, while riding in full on brightly coloured motocross gear might look a bit conspicuous?

Why don't you buy it when you get there and no doubt save a bob or three?

WHERE in India?

The -3 degree celsius portion, the +40 portion or the "will rain cats, dogs and the occasional buffalo" portion? As you can gather, clothing requirements are different depending on where you want to go.

Helmet - full face. Safety and to keep the dust out. If you are feeling hot, the visor can be adjusted.

Don't worry too much about blending in (or not). You won't

Good point! - have you reported it to a moderator so they can move it to the correct section?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
