WP Shock/XT600 Tenere

A year or so ago I bought an unused still boxed WP Shock via ebay to fit my 3AJ Tenere.
When I finaly came to fit it last month, well it fitted the frame/swingarm no problem. Only problem was that the top of the shock is about 1-2cm wider than the original Yamaha shock, result being that the airbox/carb hoses wouldn't fit around the shock top. Rather irritating, especially as the shock and the box it came in was marked with 'XT600 Tenere'.

So, could anyone with an earlier Tenere or other XT600 (with airbox under seat) tell me how much clearance there is between shock top and the airbox/carb hoses, as I would like to know if it will actualy fit a Tenere.

I had a similar problem with a Hagon shock, only way to fit it was to wind the preload collars down and out of the way !!
Has any 3AJ owner found a aftermarket shock that will actualy fit the bike ?

p.s. the shock might now be for sale...

Hi Brian,
got a pic of the problem? Are you sure it was made for a 3AJ? Not for a 1VJ or 34L. If is is really for a 3AJ I am interessted in it. Give me a number! I will be back on next monday.

I have got one of Eibach Germany in, fits well. Wilbers NL will also fit.

I have a Technoflex (Wilbers) that fits allright.

I recently got my hands on a cheap Ohlin from a TT600R and had the same problem fitting it to my 1VJ. I got a suspension guru to fit the inards of the Ohlins into the body of the Yam shock. He welded a nipple onto the original and had a new hose made to the remote reserviour which I mounted on the LHS above the rear axle. Have to remove the battery and rear mudguard to fit or remove it but no cutting was required on the mudguard.

if you can't post a picture, just take the external diameter of the spring. Our bikes springs are around 80 mm diameter.

seems to me rather strange that yours is 90-100 mm....

if the top\head of the shock is wider, usually it can be adapted... write down the shock model number at least...

The problem is that Olins have the spring and adjusting rings at the top where the yam one has them at the bottom and the top is bare so it is narrower.
