Top End Rebuild

I have just had my 3Aj in to have the cam chain replaced and in the process discovered carbon in the exhausts (long term build up) and a marked barrel.
SO I am going for a top end rebuild.
Plus while I'm at it I'll get the gears checked out as well.

I'll be going for the smallest rebore as possible, can anyone recommend what sort of piston I should go for and why?

Also, I'm trying to get a few quotes, can anyone give me a ballpark figure for getting the job done in Ldn?

cheers

Geoff

Standard oversize for XT600 go in steps of 0,5 mm. KEDO (www.kedo.com, german) has oversize piston kits (including pin, rings, etc) in steps of 0,25.

KEDO kit is abt 125 EURO, rebore should cost abt 50 EUROS.

Succes!

Hi Geoff
Give me a ring (01892 853913) and we can talk about your 3AJ top end.
There are so many options and modifications to consider when doing any work on an XT motor.
Im only one hour from London anyway.

Hi Geoff,
How is your engine coming on ? Sorry I missed meeting up with you in London last week, had to dash off to the Pyrenees.

Let me know what you decided to do with engine,

see you,

Simon

Hi Simon,
Hope you got back to France OK.
My bike is being rebuilt by X-bikes at the moment.
It should be ready early January,
which doesn't give me much time to run it in.
But there you go.

I went back to the dealer I borught the bike off, with the report of the damage to the engine prior to me buying the bike and he wasn't very interested.
So, unfortunately I will have to take this one step further.

cheers,
Geoff
