I really need help with my tacho drive gear . It keeps leeking as the gasket inside is defective. Not possible to buy as a spare acc to yamaha here. Have to buy the whole unit for like 150 $ !!. Does anybody out there have a solution ?.

Isn't it an O ring that seals it like on the earlier bikes?

oil seal

hi chrisvas on my 1vj i had an oil leak from the tacho drive and oil was coming out of my cable and spilling out behind my headlamp and running down my rh fork and over my horn.I took my tacho drive apart and it had been filled with instant gasket so i cleaned this out and ordered an oil seal which fits inside this part to stop oil coming out from inside and going up the cable cost about £4 and i also fitted a new o-ring which fits the tacho drive where it fits into the head and now i have no oil leak.if you think a 1vj(1988) oil seal is worth a try i will see if i can find the bill and get you the part number if i can find it if not you can order from fowlers of bristol in england.i hope this info helps but i do not know if this part will fit your bike.

Yamaha here thought that the solution you mentioned wouldnt work for my bike as the dimensions are not the same.. Outer 19mm hole 11mm depth 5mm.

Anyway.. I found a replacementpart on ebay with buynow ! cheaper than a new part but it still annoys me that yamaha seem to have chosen some odd dimension probably to sell a complete drive gear instead of a simple oilseal..

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
