oil leak
Hi,
having sorted out the issue with the tank and generally tidied up my 1VJ I noticed a small oil leak. It appears on the top fin on the front left hand corner of the engine after running the bike. It is not a large amount but if I am going to tour on this bike I would be more comfortable if the engine was able to hold all the oil in it. I am assuming that it is coming from the rocker cover gasket. Can I simply use some liquid gasket or ought I see about having the rocker cover off and replacing the gasket completely? I noticed that this is bolted to the frame. Does this make it a big job? Any suggestions would be most welcome. thanks Steve Apologies for appearing such a ninnie but I am new to trailees and to XTs specifically [This message has been edited by Stephen (edited 08 April 2003).] |

there is no (paper)gasket.
you have to use a silicone sealant. don't apply too much. to dismount the cover you can lower the engine in the frame just by removing every bolt except the lower rear one. (!) when putting back the bolts, the one on top of cylinder head is the last one to be tightend. regards klaus |
