New clutch plates needed???

When I rebuilt my 84 XT600 I thought the clutch plates had enough left on them. I'm getting hardly any "friction" from it though. Does anyone know what the minimun amount of friction material is needed for a good usable clutch disc?

Thanks,
Drew

Sounds like an adjustment problem. Check a Clymer for the correct method of adjustment.

It's not a big job - you just have to take the clutch cover off (after draining the oil).

If there's plenty left on the plates there's no reason why it's them.

Thanks Tom,

I adjusted it as much as possible and I'm 99% sure I'm due for a new clutch at this point.

clutch

hello alj9115 i had a problem with my clutch slipping when in high gears so i tried everything to adjust it and had no luck.So i took the plates out and they were thicker than the min spec (cant find info at the moment will find if needed) so i put a new plate kit in an ebc dirt bike heavyduty one and it does not slip at all i thought it could be down to a previous owner putting the wrong oil in at some time? because i had only had the bike about 4 months when it got worse if you need the min specs let me know and i will look at my manual, good luck.
