Question Engine swap from 1vj to 3TB

Hi.

I have opend up the top end of my Tenere(1vj) and I found that the bearing surfices for the camchaft are badly worn.It has gone to the point where a complete rebuild is needed.
When I was searching for parts I came across a guy who has a 3Tb in good condition.Since the price was okey I bought it,so it will be a engine swap insted for a rebuild.
Does anyone know if the CDI-unit from my old engine will work with the 3Tb engine? As far as I can see the only things that are diffrent between the setups are alternator wireing and conection. But if I take the alternator cover and alternator from the old engine I think it shuld work?

Anyone that has some ideas about this?

Search the list

Hi Tom,

I haven't done it myself but there have been a number of posts in the past on doing this engine swap.

I suggest that you search this list, and if you find out how to, I'd be grateful if you could tell me how!

I fitted second hand alternator windings to my 3AJ. This replacement set had the connectors wired differently and I just changed them to suit my loom and the bike ran fine for many thousand miles.
Hope that's of some help

Mark
