Had mine from new some 12 months and 5000 miles ago and I`ve noticed it seems a lot more important to get the clutch play right than on other bikes I`ve owned, amazing the difference a tweak of the handlebar cable adjuster has made to my bike on two occaissions.By the way i`ve had 30-odd bikes and for me to have anything for more than 12 months without at least looking for something else says a lot for this bike, love it.

My XT660z (1VJ) was a right ba**ard to get into neutral hot or cold. What worked for me, and might also for you, were the following :
i) Adjusting and lubing the clutch cable
ii) Changing the oil from mineral to semi-synthetic - Halfords 15W-40(being a cheapskate I didn't use totally synthetic - maybe next time)
The difference was amazing, almost like riding another bike. Gearbox seemed slicker and neutral, no matter what the temperature, just slips in (Oh !)
