Fitting the parts was straight forward for these models, there is a blanking plus in the right hand side engine case which is easily removes and replaced with the oil seal which the kick start shaft passes through.
It appears to me that when Yamaha moved the clutch actuator to this side they stopped drilling the kick start shaft hole, hence the additional work required as detailed by Klause.

Never did get the hang of bump starting a fully loaded XT, even on tarmac.


Hi. Mark, could you tell me where you got the kickstart shaft for the 1991 XT 600E you mentioned?

I have a 1990 XT 600E and I want to put a kickstart because my battery keeps dying but the one my father bought a few years ago just doesn't fit because the "sprocket" won't touch anything [the lenght from the shortest edge to the sprocket is too short... please help
