'89 XT600Z Teneré Shift shaft

The splines on my shift shaft are badly worn.
Is the shaft easy to replace?
Are there any other options?
Welding is not an option!

Lightbulb Shift shaft

You'll have to take the bottom end, and also the bottom end apart.
So, don't.

Several fixes are possible; one is to saw through some more the split in the clamp, second is to put some stuff between shift shaft and lever.

I had worn splines on a kickstart shaft and was told to wrap some silver foil on the shaft then put kickstart on.
Not sure if it works but worth a go.
