I'm having a hard time finding neutral and shifting my '89 XT600. It isn't too bad, but just doesn't seem "Normal."

I've adjusted the cable and it doesn't help, so I'm guessing I need to adjust the mechanism. I've tried to find the procedure online and can't find anything. I have the XT600E and I'm guessing the procedure is similar for my non-"E." other than the clutch is on the other side.

Can I adjust the clutch without taking the cover off? I'm working in Moldova and there isn't a Yamaha dealer here and getting gasket shipped to me will take a month, $$$ and headaches. There are two spin off "things" on the cover in what seems to be the right location for adjusting the mechanism. Can it really be that simple?
