As far as I know the Rotax 652cc engines that Pegaso's used up until the 2005 "Strada" model are the same as the F650 motors - Aprilia used to ( I think they still do) build F650's for BMW too.

It's my impression, no more than that - no hard facts that I know, that there are more Aprilia dealers here in the UK; this will improve the backup for spares etc if there is a wider distribution of dealers.

BTW, the 650GS has the Rotax engine still so far as I know - their modification is to use their own twin spark head which was developed by their car racing engineers (according to the sales staff).

I spoke with a Triumph dealership about "Adv" bikes about 4 weeks ago and the dealer owner reckons that there is no interest in producing such a bike - they are very happy with the sales of their street bikes and the next triple is just that; the 675 naked version of the Daytona, named the "street triple" in the UK.
I'd love to see Adv 675 though!!

Anyway, we are a bit off your thread Matt, apologies.

No please carry on! The more I know the better - I've not had a call back from the dealer yet so I'm beginning to think I may have missed the boat and that they've all gone... I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see what's going on.

You are very kind!
Because you are still interested in this particular model, it might be worth getting hold of Aprilia UK (which is somewhere in southern Scotland from memory - perhaps Ayrshire) to find out which dealers have the Capo in stock. Maybe there is a demo bike or two around at this time of year.
It should show up on a search of the net.

A short story:
Aprilia UK used to "sponsor" a test ride on various tracks around Europe, including here in Britain a few years ago (which is how I got to ride a few different models) - they scrapped the UK version when just about every brand new bike was "thrown down the track" by a bunch of numpties; there was a lot of expensive damage to 20 brand new A Milles!

Dealers and rumours
Mollydog,

To remain off the Aprilia topic a tad more, it is true in the sense that is what the (single) dealer was saying about 4 weeks ago; I agree that they are often not in the loop and I can understand why the manufs would not want the rumour mill stoked up by such dealers.

This particular dealer is an IOM sidecar racer, so he may not be very interested in the "adventure" market anyway, but if it sells bikes...........


UK rumours often start in the MCN (and they are very often accurate in their content, for various reasons):-

MCN MotorCycleNews home - the biggest motorcycling community in the UK
if anyone on the other side of the Pond, or anywhere else for that matter, is interested.

At least BMW declared a few years ago that for the foreseeable future they will produce 2 new bikes per year - Triumph are more coy on such announcements, probably for good reason because they have been known to cancel projects very late in the development stages.

Won't be long anyway before the annual show programme starts when we all get to see what is definitely (unless it is badged Gilera or .....) coming to the market in 08!

Just to clarify a few points mentioned above;

The current Pegaso range use the same Minarelli engine as the current XT660's and the Derbi Mulhacen, as well as a Yamaha quad (Raptor I think).
The 990 engines, as well as the Shiver and Mana engines are made by Rotax to Aprilia's design. The only Piaggio engines used are in scooters. I'm not sure about the SXV's though. Next yeat the 1000cc V twins are to become 1200's and there's a new Capo due.

There are still a handful of new Caponords in dealers.

The importer mentioned in Scotland no longer deals with Aprilia (they're in Dunragit near Stranraer), they now bring in Sym scooters. Aprilia UK are in the process of moving from Manchester to the Piaggio HQ somewhere off the M25.
