Hello all, from Derbyshire.

Trev, from Derbyshire, here. Saying hello to everyone. RTW wannabee, needing a kick up the arse. Dis-organised but dreaming, I guess.
I've ridden to a few european race meetings, but that's about it, as far as bike travel goes... up to now!

Kick!

Welcome Trev! And consider yourself Kicked!

Plenty here to get you going.
And hold on to your dreams - they'll help as well.

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!”
(William Hutchinson Murray, Scottish Himalayan Expedition. 1951).

Hey Trev you sound like me. I have now set a couple of goals (my dream is not RTW but Ireland, UK & Europe). If I stay in my current job then the trip with be in 2017 as this is when I can get long service leave.

I am currently looking for a job in mining to make some extra money and hopefully bring my trip forward by a couple of years.

I am hopeing to spend about 12 months away.

Good luck with your dreaming. Mine is what gets me through the day.

Hey Trev

I'm just about to head home to Derbyshire after living in Perth Western Australia for the past 22 years. Feel free to tag along. I'm not an experienced overlander but I'll do my very best. Leaving August 1st, should take about nine months or so.

Good to hear from you, keep Derbyshire warm for me!

Dave

Would be great, but you're going the wrong way, for me.

Hi Trev,
I think a fair few of us are "RTW wannabe's"....... but thats how it starts!
I have done round Europe and ventured just outside but like most its down to jobs/finance/family commitments that hold us to the 2-4 weeks away.

Anyways, beautiful part of the world Derbyshire with great roads........I grew up there and have a ride back often.

confidence

Hi seejay
Well ... in a nutshell, I'm not too bad off, in most dept's.
My mortgage is 260 a month ... renting it out would get me 450 ish
I have funds of around 12 grand, doing nothing.
My job is errr tentatively balanced, due to my fondness for trackday injuries (another reason to find an alternative to trackdaying), but does make me around 2grand a month nett, without overtime, (and I get paid for 3 months, when I'm injured, like errr now), and I've worked there for 30 ... yep, thirty, years. Count em ... I certainly have!!!
I have some form of pension, that I've paid thru work, although I'm sure it'll not be buying me a private island, or owt, but its there.
I've been divorced, for 7 years, with a 15 yr old daughter, who lives with her mum. Everything's cool, there, but financial support would have to continue, I guess. (Not exactly a bank breaker)
A K6 GSXR750, that could be traded, and I owe nothing on.
My problem, I think, which I appreciate will be common, is the confidence to leap. The ... doing it by myself, niggles.

Blimey ... having read the above, I don't know why I haven't set off, already!!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
