New York Ro-Ro ferry?

Anyone got any information on this ferry? I'd heard there is a cheap ferry that you can stick your bike on from New York to Europe.

I have contacted Walenius Wilhelmsen who I understand operate these type of ships but has anybody got any actual experience of shipping this way? I think I only saw 1 person having done this on the HU shipping page.

Yep I shipped a Kenworth truck from New York to Southampton about 10 years ago. The truck was shipped using an East Brunswick, NJ based shipper called International Sea and Air and the UK based agent was R & G Maritime Agencies Ltd. Don't know if either still exist but I received first class service off both. The shipping cost $2,835 but then the tractor unit was more than 30' long! Don't ask what the Customs duties were....

Shipping bike USA to UK

Hi,
I did the Transam trail in June and I shipped my bike from Southampton to Charlestone SC in June 2007 and back from Long Beach CA last month, using WW Ro Ro ferries both ways. I was really pleased with the service the bike arrived in perfect condition. Although they tell you not to leave anything on the bike I had to return from the states in a hurry and left all my kit in soft ortlieb panniers on the bike with no locks.Everything arrived safely and intact. In the UK you can deal directly with WW but in the states you must employ a shipping agent such as ehharms who are based in NY. Make sure they consign the bike to WW or yourself if possible then you can clear the bike through customs youself and only have to pay dock fees.
My costs were £525 to ship Southampton to Charlestone plus $60 port handling fees.
Return was $1275 (this was local long beach agent and I was in a hurry) but ehharms qouted me $1000. I had to pay £130 to clear customs in the UK and dock fees because the shipping agent I used in Long beach had consigned the bike to another shpping agent in the Uk. As I mentioned before this cost could have been avoided by having the bike consigned to me.

In summary, I would recommend WW, they are a good firm to deal with. The ships were on time and you can track there progress on the web.My cheap bike was treated like a star although it was surrounded by vehicles costing 100 times more.

Hope this helps and have a great trip.

Jon

Vancouver to Morocco?

Well I've made it to Vancouver but am now thinking instead of crossing the States/Canada and using the Ro-ro, I am looking at flying me and the bike to Morocco from here and riding back up to the UK.

I now have a price of $1700 to fly the bike from Vancouver to anywhere in Europe including Lisbon using Motorcycle Express but am hoping its possible to get it direct to Morocco. Anyone done this route?

Shipping

Hmm, don't know of anyone that has gone form Vancouver to Morocco. MotoEdde shipped to Morocco or somewhere near there but from what he said, did not have a pleasant experience.

Shipping by air is only $1,300 from Toronto or Montreal. Short drive from here as you know, 4500 km to T.O.

Was Motorcycle Express certain about all the destinations available into Europe? Reason I ask is that I know that their charter airline (Air Transat) has many more options for European cities from Toronto and Montreal but fewer options from Vancouver.

Would be nice but I can't afford to ride in North America any longer, its just way too expensive!

Here's what I got form Motorcycle Express:

We can ship your uncrated motorcycle by airfreight as follows:
ONE-WAY from: Vancouver or Calgary TO London, Manchester, Glasgow, Frankfurt, Paris, Munich, Dublin, Lisbon

USD $1,695.00

Shipping

Good to know. I guess if one wants to go to a destination that isn't direct from Vancouver (such as Lisbon) they must first tranship the bike to Toronto on one of their many domestic flights.

Really, you find it expensive here in Canada? If you're tight on budget, there's a whoooole lotta free camping to be had between here and Toronto.

I'll be shipping my bike, which is back east, out of Toronto next week to mainland Europe. For a few s, I could be convinced to ride your bike out there for you

New Jersey-Southampton

Used W-W from New Jersey to Southampton in July 2005. Left loaded panniers on the bike. Bike arrived unmarked and untouched. I was advised to remove number plates from bike before shipping. Excellent service and would use again.

shipping to europe

Hi Mike

Grimaldi ship to Europe and apparently they also have spaces on the ship on occasions for people to sleep on board as well. These guys also might be able to help the other way around... Laser Transport International Limited

If you are shipping out of Vancouver to Europe, check out World Wide Animal Travel, they gave me great service and a price much cheaper than Motorcycle Express.
