Korea or Japan to Southeast Asia

Has anyone transported from Japan or Korea to anywhere in southeast asia to avoid China? I am assuming it will be too difficult to ride through China into Vietnam.

From Japan it is possible to ship to SE Asia. However, air freight here is quite expensive. It would probably be cheaper to ship by sea then hang out on a beach for a couple weeks. Malaysia seems to be easy to ship to. Note that you will need a carnet for Japan in most cases.
