Thumbs down World Nomads

I have purchased, and then canceled a policy with this company. World Nomads.

Let me start out by saying, I like the policy and the benefits for a great price. Everyone I spoke to on the phone was intelligent and helpful. All email correspondence was quick and concise.

Here is the biggest thing for an American overland traveler that they don't cover. Dirt. You are only insured if you are on tarmac. From what I have gathered this applies to me as an American. It differs from country to country. So if you claim residency from anywhere besides the U.S., you might be OK. Just make sure you ask about off road, including dirt roads.

I’m on the hunt for insurance again. I’ll re-read Trip Paperwork. Drop me a line if anyone has any insight.

Thanks for the heads up, i'm planning to purchase a policy with them in a month or so. Could you break it down a bit more for me? How do you mean they won't cover you on dirt? Are you reffering to vehicle insurance, or travel insurance?

Ta, Jonno

From the worldnomads website: It is important to remember that World Nomads travel insurance specifically excludes acts that:
* 'deliberately put your life in danger'
* involve alcohol or drugs'
* 'parachuting or skydiving'
* 'any racing activity other than on foot'
* expenses relating to HIV or STD's'

They don't offer vehicle insurance, only health cover. I suggest you check the policy wording that applies to you as an American. I've got the Kiwi policy and it's clear to me. This is in fact what I really like about their policy: Plain English. Got one, but no claims so far and hope it stays that way.
