Trip via Algeria and Tunisia

I'm looking at planning a trip from the UK to Algeria and Tunisia in a few months via Spain and back through Scicily etc. Getting the ferry from Almeria to Ghazaouet and ferry from Tunis to Palermo. Anyone got any recent experience and advice on obtaining an Algerian visa (I'm holding a British passport), particulary regarding the "accomodation certificate"? I've been in touch with the Algerian Consulate in London and they said it would be OK just having a couple of nights accomodation booked. I'm not planning on going inland too far as there's more bureaucracy and paperwork! Anyone know of any interesting sights not to miss?

"In a few months" sounds like summer. When are you thinking of going?

Interested

Hi, I'm considering something similar in May 2020. I was wondering if you made your trip a reality?

Sadly, I didn't because I couldn't get a LOI (letter of introduction) for the visa which would have given me full flexibility. I did manage to get a LOI for Belarus though and went there instead. You don't say what passport you hold and if you require a LOI? If you do need one I'd be interested to hear how you get on obtaining it.

The 'certificate of lodging' (proof of accommodation booking, not really an LOI) is easy enough to get online but in my experience rarely works with unescorted self-drive in Alg and Brits have an especially hard time with visas.

They say visa rules are due to change in the next few weeks, but I think this will just be e-visas for fly-ins.
May would be pleasant enough along the north coast.
I would cross into Tunisia as far north as possible.
