MOT needed?

am in the final stages of preparing for the panamericana... only 7 weeks to go ...

when i am abroad, will my UK MOT have any validity... currently it is expired, but as i have tax and insurance, am not at all worried about ratting around for a few weeks without. If i don't need it when i'm away then i view it as a waste of money (and time...)

any reason why it would be needed in the americas at any point. i suspect not, esp as most trips are over a year anyway, and thus will have out of date MOTs at some point... but just not from day 1...

i really cannot be bothered, so please tell me i don;t need it... (leading the witness????)

thanks

Dan

No one in the americas will even know what an MOT is. So no, you don't need it.

Insurance is a differnet question though....

Sorry, to be on the safe side I'd do it, and I've just done actually, eventhough I'm going away for 4 months.

- It's 23 quid
- Peace of mind with the insurance
- What happens if just before you leave something wrong happens (e.g. - got stopped by the police)

Not to be pessimist, but it's cheap and leave your head free to worry about the (many) other things regarding the trip.

something good unexpected from my move to France.. there is no MOT for bikes... and also no road tax.. dunno how long that will be tho
It is almost worth re-registering here just to avoid paying for those.. cars however need an mot, known as 'Control technique'

Let's imagine you run someone over whilst abroad or even injure yourself and need to claim on your insurance. Your insurers would then ask to see a current M.O.T. and you don't have one......insurers are not kindly people. Be responsible and get the paperwork in order for everyones benefit.
