Learning Spanish
Has anybody got a learn Spainish course we could borrow/buy. Been looking at the Rosetta Stone it would be cheaper to go live in Spain or south america for 6 months.

I've got the Michel Thomas 8 disc Spanish course if that's any help. I've not listened to any of the discs but the French one that I used as a starter about 10yrs ago was fantastic. pm me if you're interested.

there's some guys in glasgow doing a free podcast for learning spanish. ahh, yeah, Coffee Break Spanish | Radio Lingua Network

i used it when I was living in Barca. there's no real substitute for living there, but it did help.

also, there are quite a lot of native spanish speakers in the UK these days. it's easy to get one-to-one lessons. In London I was paying £20 for an hour, once a week. that was a work-sponsored 'official channels' teacher. although it seems expensive, it was much better than listening to lessons. Partly because you had to do it, but also because the lessons could be about whatever you want ("my tyre has a puncture", for example), rather than "I would like a cold drink".

I'm sure there are some cash-in-hand spanish students near where you are, who do lessons.

Look on Gumtree under the Communities skill share section, lots of Spanish people want to improve their English so works both ways and for free.

Our council in Edinburgh runs evening classes, around £80 for 10 weeks which is good value, might be the same down your way.

Finally, if you're very naughty, you can always search for 'Pimsleur' courses on Bittorrents...

You may balk at the cost of Rosetta Stone, but if you buy levels 1-3, sit down and actually use them (assuming you will if you pay so much!) They are a great asset. I am currently working my way through French, having studied Spanish in school, and I am really enjoying it. For the price, it is a bit steep, but for the knowledge, I don't know of a better HOME method.

Hi, Alex (Bigalsmith). Your Spanish was much worse than my awful English. But you know how to set up a good fire using diesel

The best Spanish lessons are:

1) Coming to Spain to drink, eat and (if you are lucky) love. A local girlfriend is always the best teacher.

2) Paying me some s to join you on my next trip to Southamerica.

+1 For the best spanish lessons, just jump in the deep end.

+2 For the south america trip. when are we going??

Oh and for the record, who pays for software these days when you can download if for free ... Search and yee shall find. RBTL I have Rosetta stone on my MAC with 20 languages and it's a great interactive tool but doesn't replace in country experience.

Hi, Pascal (Turbocharger), you know pretty well how bad is my English (it improves when drank ), but your Spanish is really bad. You'd better pay me one gallon of just to start the first ugly words lesson.

When will you be ready to ride Southamerica? Should be amazing to take another pic of us like this one, but in the Andes.



Already planning quit my job again in 2011 and ride from NY to Usuahia.

I offer my self as a Spanish teacher for any non Spanish speaker who wants to ride Southamerica. Low salary wanted: just gallons of malt juice.

+ 1 for Rosetta Stone. It is an excellent method. I'm currently learning Russian. It requires a lot of discipline, i.e. make the time available on a regular basis and sit down and do it. But, that's true for anything else in live...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
