insurance-liability cover ??
Hi,
can any legal guys/girls advise? general personnal travel insurance gives $3,0000,000 (£2,000,000 ) worth of personal liability cover,so when travelling in say the states /canada/central/south america , do you need to take out liability motor cycle cover for $50,000? or is this a legal requirement? thanks |

It depends on your insurance policy. Check the coverage and exclusions concerning the personal liability section. I suspect that you won't be covered for liabilities arising from operating vehicles, your own or rented. But I may be wrong, so check the exact wording of your policy. I assume you meant bodily and property liability against a third party arising from a motor vehicle accident.
Then you must have an insurance in US, Canada and Mexico (specially US and Canada; don't know about the rest of the Americas) against third party liabilities. If you arrive on your own vehicle, you'll only get through customs once you have purchased an insurance (this is like the Green card in Europe). If you rent, this insurance is covered in the rental price. If you meant liabilities to protect yourself (your property or rented), then as far as I know that is optional in North America. |
