insurance for georgia

freunde der landstrassen und schotterpisten,

first i am talking about georgia aka sarkatwelo.
ordinary european bike insurances don´t cover georgia.
my question: is it possible to purchase such an insurance at the turkey-georgian border?
if yes, how much would it cost?

Yes you can purchase insurance at the border, but try to do it before in the last town in Turkey.
I had to purchase insurance at the border(on the Georgian side) and it wasn't cheap.

Bit of confusion here; people on this site have previously said that the Georgians dont ask for any paperwork to enter their country. Now it seems we need insurance......

hello
it can be still true that they don't check insurance but when you make a serious accident and hit someone there it would be good when you have insurance. or are you just driving without insurance at all??

I entered Georgia from Azerbaijan at Lagodekhi / Balakan. I was not asked for insurace and did not have insurance. It should be possible to get it at the border.

Georgia is not like other former Soviet countries... the police don't bother you!

It's up to you if you want to take the risk of driving un-insured.

45 Eur

We entered Georgia from Turkey last year (close to Batumi).
We paid 45 EUR per bike for the insurance.
Custom`s officer insited on that.
We tried to get in without the insurance but where sent back to the agent.

In generall the border crossing was very easy and we where treaded like kings. With shouts "Tourist, tourist" we where directed to the front of the VERY long queue of cars and trucks waiting to get into Georgia.
