valid origin country insurance needed in other countires?

I am going to travel for 2 years and am debating how long I need insurance for. Technically, when I leave Canada, can I rely strictly on the "green card" for the European part of my trip and then buy insurance at each border (where needed)? I guess my Canadian insurance is null and void anyway ... I'll cover up the expiration tags with something or tear them off. The paperwork for the bike does not have an expiration date on it.

Grant,

Thanks for the feedback. BC registration separates from the insurance. You can tear the sheet in half along the line. As such, there's no date on the registration part.

You may want to go a HU meeting one is not far from you and will help with all the questions you have and some you do not know to ask. Like what is a carnet, how much is it, where do I get one, and where do I need one. Is it a good idea to pictures any place I go? And why asking "How much is the fee?" a good way to save time and how $5 and not being able to talk can save you $100

It will save you money and may save your life.

This info is from 2005 you may want to get some up to date info.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
