Hi Graham,

Sorry for the late reply.

Currently we're not covering, though looking into it because of loads of inquiries and with current problems of cutting the number of places to buy insurance on site, for example in Vladivostok.

Safe travels,

Cheers

I am also happy to recommend Dooby / Frgich for the provision of green card insurance. I needed it for my cross Europe tour due to not having a European drivers license and had a short timeframe between when I purchased my motorcycle in the UK and when I wanted to begin in Spain.

Turn around time was 9 days from when I sent the documents to receiving them in the UK, and I am now happily posting this from Spain mid-tour.

I don't think that 'Frontier Insurance' (in other words, insurance for one specific country only) is available in any of the countries that participate in the European 'Green Card' scheme.

'Green Card' insurance covers a non-European vehicle (car or moto) in all of the EC countries and a few of the countries that are in the process of integrating into the EC.

'Frontier Insurance' covers vehicles from outside that country (which could include European vehicles) in that one country only.

See the picture of a 'Green Card' document that I posted in post #126 of this discussion (click here to go directly to that post) , then compare it with all the different 'Frontier Insurance' documents I posted in a separate discussion entitled Balkans Insurance.

When you look at the 'Green Card', note the country codes at the bottom of it. 'Green Card' insurance covers you in all the countries that are not crossed out with an X. If you want to go into the countries crossed out with an X, you have to buy 'Frontier Insurance' at the entry point to EACH of those countries.

Hope that clarifies it for you.

Michael
Hi Micheal

I am confused about getting green card insurance for cars registered in non-EU countries. I am in the process of shipping my USA-registered car to Europe and looking for liability insurance. However, every insurance company in Europe told me that "a green car insurance cannot be issued to a car not registered in Europe. (see, for example, Green Card)

Then, I checked the website of the Council of Bureaux, which is the entity that manages the green card system. In their documents, it is also clearly mentioned in section 2 of Internal Regulations document that:

1. Each bureau shall be responsible for printing its Green Cards or shall authorise its members to print them.
2. Each bureau shall authorise its members to issue Green Cards to their insureds solely for vehicles registered in any country for which it is competent.
3. Any member may be authorised by its bureau to issue green cards to its insureds in any country where no bureau exists provided that the member is established in that country. This option is limited to vehicles registered in the country in question.

Hence, I don't undertand if it is even legitimate to sell green card insurance to non-EU registered cars.

I want insurance that is valid in Greece. I will ship my car to Turkey and drive to Greece from Turkey. I wonder if I can get the liability insurance at the greek border.

Thank you

Alex

I can't speak to what the regulations say. I can only report that I've twice purchased green card insurance for my US-registered motorbike, and that it passed inspection at a variety of TIP desks and border stations--some of which no longer seem to exist, since my first time was in 2007.

As an added bonus, I even used one of those green cards to travel in Colombia, where it was totally invalid (and after it had expired). Seemed a pretty good deal!

Contact Frgich as indicated in the post above yours.

The whole team at Lobagola B&B and Lobagola MotoTours wants to thank all of our friends and clients for giving us their trust and using our services throughout this year.

As we're always pushing things forward listening for the community and it's needs, we have launched our new website fully dedicated for motorcycle service, tours, experiences etc.

Home - Lobagola mototours

new contact emails are:

info@lobagola.mototours.com
insurance@lobagola-mototours.com
tours@lobagola-mototours.com

There are many new services, insurance products, freight solutions and our support is reaching even farther then before regarding the logistics, paperwork etc.

If you want to own your own EU registered motorcycle, need to freight it by air/sea or land, plan to travel from Australia to Europe or crossing Africa we are now able to provide support throughout the way.

Before buying your motorcycle through our service you can come and rent one of the bikes from our fleet for very competitive prices and see why clients from all over the world like our location as we're just 1,5 h ride from Alps and 1,5 h ride from Adriatic coast. TET is just 1,5 h ride from our premises and our motorcycle warehouse.

Storage for motorcycles, 4x4 and as the community have requested van and trailer storage is now also available. As many inmates travel from northern European countries towards south to reach TET in the Balkans as fast as possible, we're now storing the vans/cars and trailers as well.

Our service garage on site is now offering Rabaconda tyre and mouse changing service for free. So if you are riding TET and need to change your tire, just send an email to info@lobagola-mototours.com or give us a call.

Our on site tire storage and availability is spreading into offering off road tires and large enduro motorcycle tires to be bought on site directly from us.

Expedition tours and newly added training experiences are available on request.

Our Lobagola B&B accommodation is running as always 365 days a year, so you're more then welcomed to stay with us. Just stopping by for a , a coffee or just a chat for useful fresh info will makes us happy.

See you out there (more often off the road then on the road) .

BR

Hi, does any one know how a Canadian who has purchased a UK-registered bike in the UK (but is at the UK / France border and doesn't need to drive in the UK) can go about buying Green Card insurance?

I thought I could do this with Dooby / Lobagola as I had done so in 2018 but perhaps Brexit has changed that.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Just received our green cards for Europe transit and Morocco (first time in 4 years!)

Insurer says they no longer issue them on green paper, and that a digital print out on white paper is the new norm.

This seems to tally with here: https://www.ofesauto.es/en/as-from-n...n-green-paper/

Has anybody experienced any issues having a white paper copy when entering Morocco? They used to be very keen on seeing the original green document but hoping times have changed.

Thank you.

David

That is correct - green paper has not been necessary for years. Within the EU/EEC nobody will even ask for it on paper, and in my experience neither did the border guards in Montenegro and Bosnia - they wanted to see the bike registration on paper, but didn't even ask about insurance. A printout on regular paper should be just fine for any country that accepts Green Cards in general.

Thank you AnTyx that is good to know!

However, I am particularly interested to know about Morocco. I only ask as the douane were always very particular about the green card and seeing the original copy. I'm hoping they won't cause a fuss it has been 4 years since last visit.
