Carnet! Need urgent help!

My carnet (unfortunately, my laptop with more than 1,500 photos and articles and my satphone as well) was stolen yesterday in Khartoum (Sudan). Does anyone know if it is possible to enter those countries towards Cape Town (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda etc.)?

Cheers,

Ali

Kenya and Uganda, definately yes. You are able to obtain a temporary import permit ("TIP") at the border, and do not require a carnet.

Ethiopia - I am fairly sure that you can enter without a carnet. I had my carnet stamped, but the Ethiopians also have some sort of TIP that they were about to fill in before I gave them my carnet.

cheers

If the Sudanes have stamped your carnet on entry then you will have to sort that one out before heading for the border.

Miracle! Sudanese Police Dept. found my briefcase yesterday, with all Carnet, my laptop and satphone. May be Kharoum is not the "one of the safiest cities in Africa" as written in Bradt's guide, but its police dept. is one of the quickest in the world, for sure.
