Car Registration

We are about to do the Plymouth Banjul Challenge.I am a French living in the UK and the car has been bought in France by some of my family. We will need to change the registration of the car. I cannot have the car registered to my name since I am not living in France. What would you advice me to to do? I have 2 choices:
First one would be to have the car registered to someone name in my family but I am worried about going across the border with a different names all over the paper work.
Second choice is to have the car registered under an export registration. But I am worried that it will cause problem to have "Export" Stamped everywhere on the paper work. And also the paper work is only valid 30 days, so it mean tha I will have to havce the car registered twice between now and the end of the rally.

What would you say is the best option? Or would you know of a better way to do it?

Thank you very much for your help

Regards

Jude

The obvious solution to me would be to register the car in your name in France. Since you have family there that shouldn't be a problem.

When I lived on the Cote d'Azur I registered a vehicle by post, no proof of residence required, as the rego form serves as an affidavit (declaration sur l'honneur) for your address. You can then insure it via Internet.

Why not register it in the UK? If you have an address here and the French invoice for the car is in your name then the procedure is really straightforward. If you send me a pm to qte at btinternet dot com I can e-mail you a pdf of the document the DVLA put out to explain the procedures.
