hello
has anyone got any advice about carnets? We're travelling to North Africa and conatcted the RAC and the German equivalent - which now requires such a large deposit, it's chaper to go with the RAc - which is ridiculously expensive - any advice? Thanks. |

Hi Nailah
You mention you're going to North Africa. You should check with the RAC as to which countries require the Carnet, since you might not need it. Our information is that Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria do not require carnets, Egypt and Libya definitely do. So you might want to plan your itinerary around which countries don't require a carnet. A search on the word 'Carnet' and the country name (Search function is at the top right of every page) will bring up lots of information. See the following links for a couple of recent threads: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000274.html http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000593.html http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000156.html Carnets are definitely getting more expensive, but you do get the deposit back when you return with the bike. Perhaps you can persuade a relative or friend to loan you the money for the duration of your trip. My mum funded our carnet for our first trip! Good luck and let us know how you go! ------------------ Susan Johnson "It matters not what goal you seek Its secret here reposes: You've got to dig from week to week To get Results or Roses."
