Looking for someone that will be going to the HU meeting in Chiang Mai on the 16th of Jan. that wants to do some riding. I am coming to Bangkok on the 6th of Jan. and really would like to find someone to hook up with for riding. I plan on doing a trip up to Angkor Wat and then over to Chiang Mai and then I am pretty open after that for couple weeks. I rode 30 days there last year alone and would really love some company for the dirt roads.

Hey Larry

Do you have a bike stashed over there--or do you rent one? Maybe a little more than curious--so throw out any other thoughts you have up your sleeve!

Hi Mark
We need to talk and I sent you a email as well. To answer your question on the bike. It is very expensive to ship a bike from the US to Thailand and I have learned to just travel light and rent one there. I did that last year and rented a Kawasaki 250 dirt bike for 21 days and it cost me $17 per day plus gas. You can rent a step though 125 or so for about $4 per day and that is all you need. When you have the big bike kawakasi 250 everyone really looks at that and it is pretty easy to see you are a tourist. That helps with the cops as they pretty much leave the tourist alone. There are all kinds of places in Chiang Mai to rent right out on the street. It is pretty easy to get around to get out of town there which is much easier than it would be in Bangkok area. Lots of great riding for either day rides or doing the loop or up to Chiang Rai and the Golden triangle area as well. Lots of elephant camps in those areas and lots of remote dirt roads to explore.

Laos

I can not believe that have not seen more people looking at this post. I think I will put Laos in the title and see if more do not respond. South east Asia is so nice and cheap that the world sure needs to wake up to it before they pave it all.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
