Myanmar

We're travelling from Australia to England (via Asia, China, Mongolia and Russia) in 2015 in our Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 campervan. We're hoping to do a side trip through Myanmar for a couple of weeks or so. Looking for other travellers to share the costs of a guide. Happy to go one way with someone to border and then return with someone else. Flexible timeframe from January to April 2015. Also, can anyone recommend a guide? Thanks

Hi drrob,

Yes, we're interested in joining with others if we can. I've also been talking with Jenny Kelly and they are interested as well. We are wanting to do a round trip (enter and exit from Thailand) but would be happy to join with others for part of the trip if they are exiting to India. I am waiting on a price from Diethelm Travel at the moment. Thank you for the offer to share the details/quotes that you have. That would be great.
We leave here in January and freighting to Point Klang so February or March would suit us best. I will also contact the other couple you mention.
Thanks
Barbara

Hi,

I crossed Myanmar from Thailand to India in May of this year. I was part of a convoy of 5 bikes and the company we used was Expeditions Myanmar.

It was a great experience and worked out cheaper than flying to Kathmandu. Highly recommend it!

I wrote about it here
Crossing Burma

and did a video here if you're interested
Part 4: Myanmar Video

Cheers,

Tim

Hi

we now have a booking for Myanmar. Entering from thailand at Maesot /Myawaddy border on 14 February 2015 and exiting back to Thailand at Keng Tung/Tachilek border. We are still looking for more travelers to reduce costs further. So far we have 2 vehicles and the tour company is happy for us to stay in our campers.
We are also finalising China - but it will be for 3 weeks entering at the Laos border and exiting to Mongolia at Erenhot.

Hi Ray
sounds like you will be following the same route as we are but just a little bit later. We leave from Australia early January. You are welcome to join us if you want to leave earlier!! If not we may see you in Europe somewhere. We're in a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 campervan and are originally from Dunedin. Have a great trip.

Hi Kayjay
thanks for your kind offer. At the moment we are heading north through China and Russia.but you never know, our plans might change.

regards, Barbara
