Nordkapp from Uk in summer 2010 anyone?

I know this has been done many times before, but not by me! Its something I really want to do especially as I've been up there with a husky sled but never on a bike.

i've toured Europe on my current bike (a Fireblade) but want to go further afield and so will be trading that bike in for a tourer - not yet decided what - for the trip next year.

I personally want to make it a charity fund-raiser for World Vision (who I have supported for may years) but you wouldn't have to do that. It just would be nicer not to have to do it alone. I'm a very young 53 year old, easy to get on with, and only slightly bonkers so I'm wondering if there are any folks on here interested in such a trip? I hate boats so it will be the train via Calais and then riding up through France/Belgium/Germany/Denmark etc etc, but happy to do any route once up there and either camp or cabin. I am planning to take enough time out to enjoy it and see the sights, rather than a flat-out trip, so anyone with the time next year I'd be pleased to hear from you?

Graham, in case you can read this I got your message. I can't reply (yet) as this forum requires me to have a certain amoount of posts before I can send you a PM reply, so will endevour to sort that out asap.

In reply to your question, and for any others, I'm thinking of August 2010 with a 3-4 week allowance for a leisurely trip, but that's from Lowestoft to Nordkapp and return, so add on or take away any time needed from wherever you are. If you are 'up north' in the UK and wanting to get a ferry I'm happy to meet up in Scandinavia etc, but I'll be going via Calais train.

Not looking for a large group, but between 1 and 3 others would make it an ideal trip if we all get on OK?

hi,
I am also interested in a trip to Nordkapp next summer, idealy august. 3-4 weeks is also my time scale, the route is not so important, but taking it is easy is important.

I will be riding a honda CG125, so that might be a problem for you guys, but considering last summer i cycled to egypt from london it will be a big improvement for me.

Maybe meeting up for part of the way could be an idea

I'm currently on a Fireblade, and have taken that into Germany, but am thinking of changing it for a late model VFR for next year for a bit more comfort and to be able to take more luggage. Who knows, by then I may even have a pillion!

I don't want to be travelling at silly speeds, but all the way to Nordkapp (especially through France/Germany where there are good motorways to eat up the miles towards Scandinavia) behind a 125 might be a little difficult for so long. But happy to meet up en route etc, or in Norway if you are going by ferry rather than the long way up?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
