Copper Canyon for Christmas/NYE?

Am planning to be in Copper Canyon for Christmas/NYE. Would love to hear if anyone else will be around. After that, heading lazily down to Guadalajara area.
Cheers.

We were in Creel last Christmas/NYE. They had gotten LOTS of snow the week before we arrived. Many of the roads were still covered in ice 3-6 inches deep! Especially in the canyons where the sun doesn't shine.

We tried to get down into the canyon, but after riding many miles on sheets of ice (before we even got to the rim of the canyon!) we decided it would be folly to try to ride down into the narrow canyons. Instead we did some riding on the canyon rim - Divisadero, etc.

A few days later we tried to ride over the mountains to the coast and come in the back way to El Fuerte, but again there was too much ice to get over. In the end we gave up and headed back to the states.

I think that all that ice and snow was an anomoly for the area, but it does happen (see Doug and Noemi's CC trip report). I recommend that you check the weather and think twice if there's heavy snow!

Thanks for the heads up... I'll keep an eye on the weather channel. And bring more tea.
