Hello to all......My wife Lisa,our three kids and myself have lived in Nicaragua for 4 years now. We have about 8 fully enclosed acres just a few minutes from the beach. We have very modern and comfortable rooms, meals, internet and laundry options.

Two buddies and myself rode KLR's down from Oregon last year and it was the best adventure ever! I would love to do it again tomorrow.

I have been on almost every road in Nicaragua (there aren't that many roads) and would be glad to share any info. or ridin' time here.

We are two hours south of the Somotillo border on the Old Leon Highway, just south of Leon. You are welcome to look us up for a place to rest up.

Safe travels

Hello All,

i will leave in the first week of October from Los Angeles down to TDF. I plan to cross the border to mexico to the beginning of the third week in October. Would be nice to meet nice people on the way way down to Ushuaia. I am a 43 year old man from germany. My motorcycle is a Suzuki DR800 (Dr. BIG).

Currently taking care of maintenance, bike shipping, insurance and travel arrangements from The Netherlands to Anchorage. Planning to be geared up and ready to start the run to Prudhoe Bay around August 1st. Hoping weather and bugs will be hospitable. But hey, it's an adventure ain't it? Then from the Arctic all the way down to TdF or as far as my red '00 XL650V TransAlp will take me in 6 months.

@otternorth; I pushed up my departure, I should be fine now.

@G&S, I think you are about to start your ride around this time? Have heaps of fun! Hope to meet some of you guys and gals on the road.

Hi Everyone

We have finally started our journey, arrived Anchorage June 8th and crashed outside Deadhorse June 16th! Everything was going superbly, had a few days in Anchorage drove down to Homer overnight, had a day in Denali, saw some bears, on to Fairbanks and finally the Dalton. great weather bit cold going over the Attigun Pass all too good to be true. around 30 miles out of Deadhorse in strong crosswinds we hit a bad patch of gravel, which apparently is notoriously bad (now they tell us) and went down hard. Sue and I came out of it remarkably well, she has minor impact bruising and I managed to somehow punch a nice hole in my left calf which is healing well. The bike however, fared a little worse, after we fell off, the bike kept going sort of flipped and dumped itself on the tundra, couple of UK bikers we had been travelling with rendered assistance and I was driven to Deadhorse by a couple in a pickup to get my leg seen to. the bike actually started and we spent the next day straightening what we could and making it roadworthy to get it back to Fairbanks. We realise how lucky we are and are now holed up in Fairbanks for as long as it takes to get the bike sorted at best it will be the end of next week which means we could catch the D2D the same weekend we are staying at the University campus until next Wednesday so we may see you out and about. We hope that we won't have to alter our plans too much and should be back on track in a couple of weeks.

Wow, major bummer. Glad you both came out relatively unscathed, although a punctured calf sounds pretty painful. I'll make a mental note; "notorious gravel, 30 miles out of Deadhorse".

Checking in with you to see if your plans are still on for Central & South America this fall after Alaska? I hope to cross into Mexico around Sept 18, solo on an '07 KLR heading to Panama to catch a plane to Medelin on October 7th.
Now I am just contacting other riders who might be more or less on the same schedule and route as me for possible hookups along the way.

I'm planning on entering Mexico around the middle of July. The only thing I would like to see in Mexico is the Copper Canyon and the ruins at Palenque...if there is time. My only time constraint is to meet my son in Costa Rica around early-to-mid August (8-19).

Hope I can connect with you folks. I'm pretty fluent in Spanish, but although I've done several solo bike trips across the US, I'd rather have some company. I can ride fast or slow, with long or short hours in the saddle, but don't have much dirt experience. I'm an old fart; road raced until three years ago and have done a great deal of instructing at tracks.

If you are going through Los Angeles, I have a spare bedroom and lots of floor space for sleeping bags. I also have a locked garage for bikes, access to an excellent independent bike shop, and discounts at Cycle Gear for parts, etc. I'm just North of LA in Santa Clarita.

I'm on a DR650.
