Budget Travel, Am I crazy?

Am I crazy?

Hi all, I want to comment on an idea.

In July I will travel on my Road King of Valencia (Spain) to the North Cape in Norway.

The problem is now, I'll be a year without work, and will have U.S. $ 1,300 a month to live.

In addition I have about 6,000 dollars, to begin the journey.

Not to do, knowing that you have a month for the year 1.300 U.S. dollars, "you would still to Asia (Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia ... etc.) or you think that is very little money to try to make a RTW? .

That is, I will have a U.S. $ 21,000 for one year. Will I risk or I'm going home without fulfilling my dream?.

Thanks!!

hmmm It would be very possible. Thats about $1750 a month.. People do it on way less.

It also depends where you go. Choose cheaper countries and a route with not much shipping/flying.

Also avoid countries where you need carnets and lots of visas (Africa)

Maybe get a smaller more economical bike. Sell your big expensive gas guzzeling Harley for something small and you will spend less money on petrol ! (which is one of the biggest costs)

budget is the one thing I am really struggling to work out there are too many factors, Carnet, or no , food, shipping, petrol (every country costs are different) breakdown etc etc etc I think the best way is save as much as you can and go as far as you can/want doing it the way you enjoy it. If you run out head home save some more and go again.

If your not camping when in Norway, you might find affordable acomodation here:
Hostelling International Norway

Beer is expensive in Norway, so if you ride through Germany or Denmark on your way up to the North Cape make sure to bring a couple of days supply
You might spend less money if you do some of the riding through Sweden (gas, food), but then you wont see our beautiful coastline..

Good Luck!

Thank you very much everyone for your minds.

Touring Ted, the motorcycle is the Harley, it is no more prepared for these trips, but I trust her. Fast Pass by the rich countries and I will stay several days for the poor, so can save more money.

Spooky, spending the night at gas stations if necessary, no hotels or anything, thanks for giving me moral.

For pedrizero (in spanish):

Muchas gracias, no tengas envidia que la pasta es lo que me dan del paro por currar un huevo de años, y para quedarme en casa mirando las musarañas, me largo a recorrer mundo, jeje. Digamos que he pedido una excedencia forzosa por un año.
Si nos vemos en Cabo norte te invito a una San Miguel que llevare unas latas de España, que alli la cerveza esta intocable.

ta-rider, Trix, with the luck I have is that you can always go back, I have my house and I can rent and also paid a great price, which would help me on the trip.

Bip Bip, I'll go to camp sites or hostels in Norway, I'll take from Spain, also will be San Miguel, which is that there are very expensive.

Thanks for your information, you are going to get not feel like going home,

Yes, I agree. Your 5 biggest expenses in Norway are accommodation, fuel, road and ferry tolls, food and drinks.

I addressed this as follows:

Accommodation - free camped most nights and stayed at hostels for 2 nights
Fuel - not so much a problem as my 650 Burgman used less than 4.5 litres per 100 km without needing to take it easy, in any case speed limits are low in Norway.
Tolls - I tried to avoid tunnels and ferries whenever possible but it is not possible to totally avoid this especially the last tunnel into NordKap itself.
Food - I usually only eat one meal a day when I am travelling so I would buy food from supermarkets instead of eating in a restaurant. On the odd occasion I stayed in a hostel I found the breakfast is included so I made sure to eat plenty so I did not need to eat again that day.
Drinks - I basically did without, alcohol is a luxury I can forego if it is too expensive.

Yes, I have understood that there is free camping in Norway, so party uses that option.

Also will buy the food in supermarkets, but that to do only one meal a day .... ufff ... hard .. haha.

Anyway my idea is to go through expensive countries faster and cheaper to stay in longer.

I'll tell you that this whole.

Thanks for the tips,

I accept invitations to by Norwegian bikers. When you come to Spain the s on me that here are very very cheap and you put up a "cap/ tapa" for free, hehe.

Thanks!!

Bip Bip Hello, my intention is to Norway in late July as I go from Spain to Switzerland on 15 July.

Spend a few days in the Swiss Alps and then travel to Norway.

I want to be at the North Cape by 10 August.
