India/Pakistan border
Anyone know what the situation is with regards to the border between India and Pakistan? My friend in Delhi says that it is closed and I will not be able to get through...but I have a feeling she may be saying this so I don't try
![]() I am determined to go though.. hope it's ok by May!

I wouldn't worry about what it is now if you're going through in May - the two have no relationship!
I believe it is open currently. ------------------ Grant Johnson Share the Dream! at: www.HorizonsUnlimited.com

Check out the Foreign & Commonwealth Office site at www.fco.gov.uk for the latest info/advice. You can also register your countries of interest with them and they'll e-mail you if the situation changes. The border has been closed to freight and rail but is still open for independent travellers. We've met up with a Kiwi who crossed with no probs on 20th December (and rode the 2500km to Goa in time for New Year!) As Grant says, it's a long time till May and things like that tend to change regularly. We intend to head into Pakistan next month to renew our Indian visas so will let you know how we get on. Cheers guys.. FCO site has the answer..
Here it is for those who are interested: "Travellers should also be aware of the heightened tension and increased troop movements along the Pakistan/Indian border. The trans-border coach and rail services are suspended with effect from 1 January 2002, as are bilateral air links. The border crossing at Wagah in the Punjab remains open to individuals travelling on foot or by private vehicle." [This message has been edited by Spud (edited 14 January 2002).]
