Expenditure & preparation costs 2012-today (Africa, Europe, America)
This is our costs and expenses while getting prepared for Africa & the Americas. Most of the expenses and purchases made in Greece as well as online (amazon, ebay etc).
Expenditure before Africa was between October 2011-April 2012 and expenditure before the Americas is between September-December 2014.
Preparation expenses refer to a couple travelling in a car (4x4 in Africa & campervan in America).
Please check the attached pics.
Thanks a lot

Some of those numbers make my eyes water! What did you do with the Suzuki after the Africa leg - sell it to recoup some money perhaps?
Also (out of curiosity) I saw it cost you €100 for your USA leg international driving permit. Mine cost €6 (5 GB pounds) about six weeks ago. How come yours was so expensive?

Yes. We sold the Suzuki after the African leg and bought the Toyota cargo van.
Regarding the IDP, yes. The cost per permit is 50 EUR and we pay the issuing authority in Greece which is ELPA.
We would love to hear costs & make comparisons so we can cry and laugh altogether ;-)

This is our expenditure while on the road. 2 years (2012-2014) in Africa & 2,5 years in North & Central America. (Europe was always in between but only for a while) ;-)
The expenses refer to a couple in a car.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
