Bad news for some

JUst found this post from Val

"If you are a user of Archies Campings on your Satnav then you will be sorry to read this message from Archie:

FOR ALL USERS OF THIS WEBSITE I HAVE BAD NEWS!

After spending almost all of my free time on the website for over 16 years, the time has come to focus on all those other things that are important to me as well.

I really enjoyed it all that time, also thanks to all the positive feedback I've received. I will definitely miss all those heartwarming e-mails.

Of course I couldn't keep the website up to date without the help of a lot of people.

I would like to thank some of them especially:

- First of all, of course, the “translators” who ensured that my campsite data could reach almost all Europeans: Val, Per, Manu. Jose, Ralph and Danny. Thanks for all these years!!

- Also Jahdroid and Sagittario who have made it possible for my data to reach an even wider range with their apps, thanks!

- Of course also the campers who regularly reported their findings about new or closed campsites, wrong positions, etc. Thank you very much for your help so that I could give everyone the right info! It is of course impossible to name everyone here, but I will make an exception for a few: …………………... They were my main suppliers of information, thank you!

- Last but not least, everyone who made it possible to keep my hobby somewhat affordable by making a donation, thank you very much too!

The website with the latest information will be permanently blacked out in mid-September. So provide your navigation device with the latest data before then! A lot has changed again!

FINALLY, A LITTLE GOOD NEWS!

JAHDROID'S ARCHIESCAMPING APPS FOR ANDROID AND APPLE STAY AND WILL ALSO BE KEEP UP TO DATE! yours for £2.99

FOR THE SMARTPHONE AND/OR TABLET OWNERS WHO DO NOT USE THE APP YET, IT MAY BE TIME TO MAKE THE TRANSFER"

Not so easy in my recent experience, with a lot of campsites either closing or redeveloped as housing estates or skateparks or whatever. You turn up and there's nothing there. Even the ones that are still open are shutting their restaurants / toilet blocks / bars etc as camper vans are self contained and don't need that stuff.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
