DR650 conquers Africa!

Mark Hammond reports from Dakar. Check out his very entertaining blog. His DR650 is doing really well so far.

Some good comments regards the DR's performance in some fairly rough going.

Thanks for the reminder Patrick. I remember a post from Mark on ADVrider where he compared it to his previous KLR. Obviously the DR is better!

Looks like he has the bike set up very nicely with all the popular farkles. I'll start catching up on his blog posts as I also want to do Africa on the DR at some point.

Cheers,
Lukas

I'm sorry for reviving a long dead thread, but does anyone know what happened to mark? His blog stopped abrubtly and I tried googling him and this was all that came up.

I hope he's alright, that blog was a huge inspiration for my own trip!

I'm fine, made it to Cape Town no problem, back in the states now and looking forward to returning to Africa for an east side ride and making my way to India / Himalayas / Mongolia in the next year or two.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
