Ouagadougou (BF) - batteries for motorbike

Last night we arrived in Ouagadougou. Unfortunately the 2 batteries we took from Europe for our motorbikes (they stayed here for the last 5 months) have been stolen on the transfer in Casablanca.
So in need for new batteries.

Anyone who knows any address in Ouaga? And yes, we wil start asking locals where to get new ones. The nearest big bike - dealer is in Lomé, Togo.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the batteries.

Couple of suggestions, there is a small market that sells used mechanical parts, mostly car parts but there is one guy who has collected a couple of old rear motorcycle tires from what I would guess would be leftovers from travellers passing through. The market and the guy would be one place to start even though odds would be low.

Second choice, if you go to the Pavillion Vert, and ask around, there is a French guy that lives in town that they will know of. He is a great guy, has a larger bike himself and while it is unlikely he would have a battery, he would be a good source to ask if there was any chance in finding a battery in town. In some west African countries, finding a motorcycle sized battery is a possibility, but the quality may be dubious. A quality battery is typically hard to find and expensive if you can find it. Tony Togo, and then the next country which you will be able to find a battery to fit that I know of would be Nigeria. Good luck.

As a temporary/interim stopgap, consider buying a car battery and tying it to the pillion seat and wire it up.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
