Nairobi Fixer Wanted
Does anyone know a good fixer that they'd recommend in Nairobi?
My bike is due in on Tuesday and the price quoted has just gone up by about 300%.
Many thanks
Graham

Try contacting Chris at Jungle Junction to see if he has any suggestions.

Chris suggests we do it ourselves. Everyone here speaks English and there'll be fixers hanging around if we get stuck.

I have never shipped into Kenya but have cleared my bike myself into several ports and it is usually possible and can take between a few minutes and all day.
If anyone who is not in uniform or has an official looking badge offers to help they will probably be a tout of some sort and will expect payment for their services, if you do not want their help politely but firmly tell then no thank you and say that you will not be paying them if they insist.
If you do want their services get them to agree a price first and agree what they will be doing for this price, they will possibly say something like "what you think is right", ask Chris how much is right and tell them that. However much you give them they might seem unhappy with it and ask for more but stick to the agreed amount unless you think a little extra has been earned.
Good luck.

Good answer, thanks. That's pretty much what I planned. This is my first time in Africa but I've been around the block. I'll get there early with my patient head on.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
