I was in Aswan and Wadi Halfa a week to two weeks ago, the road is inplace on the Egyptian side - on the Sudan side, they are just starting the construction of the bridge across the Nile - so Inshalla, in a year or twos time it will be open.

The ferry is pretty crazy but its also a lot of fun - IF you have a motorcycle, and the barge isnt going that week, try so hard to get it on the passenger boat as, if your like me and its on the cargo boat you will have to wait in Wadi Halfa for the cargo boat to arrive and then be unloaded - it took me 5 days (two of which were the weekend -Fri / sat) There is nothing to do in Wadi Halfa....
