Bordercrossing: Guinea Bissau - Senegal - Horizons Unlimited

Hi there to everyone,
do you know if at the present moment there are land services between Bissau and Ziguinchor? And, furthermore, do you know something about security condition of this track?

I assume you wan to know if there are bush taxis from Zig' to Bissau. There are and they go from there to San Domingos (SD) at the border. From there you get another taxi to Bissau. Maybe there are taxis that go all the way too.

There are always security concerns on the Senegalease side, from Zig' to SD. MDC rebels etc. You should make the approriate inquiries at you embassy in Dakar, if there are any general warnings out etc. Mostly, there is no problems once your in Bissau.

You can of course avoid all this and travel to Tambacounda in Senegal, then to Kolda/Tanif and go accross the border from there. There are bush taxis etc. We did a similar thing last year, but in our own car. I have also done the Zig' to SD route a number of times, mostly without problems, but once with a problem.

Any other one does know anything about the situation at the border? is it safe of not?

Furthermore, are there flights between Bissau and Banjul, direct flights I mean?

The border is very safe and usually hassle free, I have travelled this route several times in the last 18 months and never had any problems.

There is now a new bridge at jao Landim, it means that when coming from the north you drive through Bula. The old signs for the diversion are still there directing you to bissora and Mansoa.

The prime minister gave a directive almost 2 weeks ago telling the police to get off the roads and leave the people alone, it seems to have taken affect as there are virtually no checkpoints left.
