Anybody in Ethiopia ?

Hi there,
I'm currently in Lalibella, touring north Ethiopia. Anybody around these days ? I will be in Ethiopia another 2 weeks or so.

I was thinking about crossing into Kenya along the Turkana lake, anybody would like to team up for this ? I don't feel like doing it solo on my bike..

Cheers,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

We just did the Turkana route 2-up alone and killed our poor old bike's frame in the middle of nowhere (between South Horr and Baragoi), so we're now in Nairobi with a broken frame (after being dragged out of there for a good $$$ of course) god knows for how long. We were fortunate to get help the same day (only 2 trucks per week go through this route), so yes, you're right, I'd not recommend doing it alone. In any case, take PLENTY of water. You should be able to get petrol along the way from a barrel (we did top it up in Turmi, Omorate and Loyangalani).

Maybe see you in Nairobi if you're hearing that way!

Respect for those on bikes! we did it in a Land Cruiser in December 2010 and wrote this:

I know of two groups in trucks going south in the next two weeks. Try and contact Wims Holland House to find out contact details.

I have difficulties imagining any kind of road (except snow & ice) that would be more difficult to navigate or be more uncomfortable on a (small) motorbike than sitting in a LC.

Feel free to explain.

Uganduro, i had to read this a few times. Should you not have said;

I have difficulties imagining any kind of road (except snow & ice) that would NOT be more difficult to navigate or be more uncomfortable on a (small) motorbike than sitting in a LC.
