Water filtration

Hi there,

Just wondering what companies/products currently have the best water filtration technology? To remove as much as possible from as dirty water as possible etc

I'll be on 4 wheels rather than two, so size isn't too much of an issue.

Cheers, Darrin

Hi Darrin

Check out this link for a good discussion (water filters come up about half way down the thread):

Thanks very much Susan,

I have ploughed through the info and it has been really useful. The rei page explaining the basic's of it all was a good starting place.

As I'm going to travel in a vehicle rather than on a bike, and plan on doing things like staying in the Gobi Desert for 6 weeks, I think I need a bigger solution than a hand held bottle unfortunately.

I'll be carrying around 100 litres of water at least at times, for drinking and cooking, and I guess if I have company some washing :-)

I'm based in the UK, and a company here called Brownchurch offer a system that incorporates a small pump with their purification system (along with a shower head) as can be seen at http://www.brownchurch.co.uk/images/...cation-001.jpg

Something like this would be great, but I've been warned off their system as the water purification method used is quite old technology etc

I guess I'm after something similiar, but with better technology. I'll report back on my research come what may.

Cheers, Darrin

One quick thing of note. I looked at www.katadyn.ch who are one of the bigger brands in Europe.

It would seem that "PUR® is now a part of the Katadyn family of brands, which also includes Katadyn® and Exstream® portable water filters and purifiers"

Katadyn do a expedition system that looks pretty good (and expensive, but will try to get it second hand )

Cheers again, Darrin
