So do I... Please keep in touch.

Question: How's punjab? I see a lot of bad things on the news. Huge floods...How's the situation there at the moment? Hope you're all fine.

Well of course the flooding is very bad for a lot of people but we didnt have a problem on the roads when we left from Lahore 6 days ago. We went all the way up to Khunjerab pass.
Lahore to Besham is in good condition. Besham to Chilas is ok but a lot of 'fixed' potholes and sometimes a bit of bad road. From 30 km after Chilas to Khunjerab pass is very smooth road except for some parts where they are working.

Is anyone aware about the current situation of the Zahedan Mixed Passenger train?
This train runs from Quetta to Zahedan but I don't know if it still running, if bikes can be loaded in it, the schedule (I think it runs twice per month), if advance booking can be done...

I'm considering this option because one of us got the Pakistan visa just for seven days and it's a little bit tight considering that anything can suddenly happen and the roads may get blocked or worse delaying us in our already tight plan.

Cheers,

Eric

Visa can easily be extended from Lahore, Islamabad, Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas (and I guess other places, but these are the ones I'm aware of...)

any heads up about crossing Iran into Turkey ?

I'm planning on doing that next month, but I'm getting a bit nervous regarding the fact that the iran turkish border is not that far away from where all the shit happens lately...

I am also going the same direction next month and also interested in recent updates

@timpel: are you already in Pakistan?
send me a pm if you want..maybe we can cross the 'troubled areas' in Pakistan together.

@eric_b_m: I got a 30 day visa extension in Multan. It only took 2 hours work and 50USD. Normally it will take 2 days in Multan.
Also..next week, I think 5 and 6 October, it's eid-ul-azha. It's a public holiday so I think extensions will not be possible

We will be entering in Pakistan next week around Oct 8th then try to extend our visas in Lahore and visit Punjab for few days before going towards Iran.

Someone on the same way during those dates?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
