On the ground update from Pakistan...
I thought it would be helpful to post a real-time update on the current situation in Pakistan. I rode up the KKH from Islamabad to Gilgit yesterday.
We saw no signs of trouble whatsoever. The stretch of road from Mansehra to Chillas through the Swat District and Indus Kohistan is not very welcoming, with very few tourist facilities and kids throwing stones, but I think that has always been the case and is not a real threat. Gilgit is fantastic - we're staying at the Madina Guest House on NLI Chowl Gilgit which is very friendly with quite a few overland travellers. Another group of bikers rode from Islamabad to Quetta yesterday and they have had a police escort for most of the way. Hope this helps! Rob One man caravan rmjardine2002@yahoo.co.uk
