Hi Joe,
We would like to go from Nepal to Laos as well. Preferably in june 2012. Contacted some touroperators on behalfe of ourselves (2up) and a rtw truck, but that one has left the idea recently. So if you are seriuous we could team up may to find more people interested. Paperwork can be done in two months by the agencies. Regards, Roemer |

hi
If you mean the route inside China, I think the chinese guides need 2 months to organise papers. Fern |

My guess is that's already pretty cold in the summer at those heights, so Oct is too late for me/us ;-) Who's in for the June-July time frame?

Yes Steven the roads will be dry then the rain has been ending the last week in Sept for the last 4 years for some strange reason, the trouble with the majority of Laos roads are a dirty clay and stick to everything, but a few days of sun then like concrete.

For the normal route, they can do the paperwork in 2 months but if you are travelling Via the 219 Tibet the Guide has asked for min 3 months because of the extra paper work involved. Eric |

Anyone else?
Is anyone else interested in this itinerary?
We have received some quotes from different agencies, didn't bargain just yet. First there needs to be an interest from fellow travellers (maybe you?). More people and vehicles means a better price for all of us. From Nepal road G318 will take you to Lhasa (Tibet) - on to Shangri-La, down to Laos. Pretty amazing but only feasable if you have too much cash or when you team up with others. The highest mountain passage will be 4329m so not so difficult for those who have conquered the Kardung-La (North-India) already... |

We'd prefer the all road to SEA as well, rather than flying or shipping. I can send you some of the quotes I received, if you want. What is your pref. timing?

I have a friend looking for travellers to share guide costs through Tibet and heading down to Laos, April/May, 2012....check out my thread. Sounds like it may be too soon for some of you though.

We are not on our way yet, still waiting for visas. I did an inquiry at some tour agents, one showed us an image of a bike of someone who'd already enlisted more or less and wanted to team up with people for this Tibet to Laos tour. Does he travel on a BMW 1200 GS by any chance?

Than he might be interested in switching agencies. Navo Tours will be doing a Tibet to Laos tour as of June 4. We have not decided to go for it just yet but although being late for him, the advantage is that a 4x4 will be in that group as well (meaning less expensive per head). If he wants to send me a PM, be my guest.
