Myanmar to Nagaland

Anyone had any luck on travelling through Myanmar from Thailand to India (Nagaland)?

According to Myanmar Tourism its possible to enter by road from Thailand and I've seen another website offering guided tours through Myanmar, but nothing for independent travellers.

Rodger,

I have just recived an e-mail from the foc that it is opening up that you have to get permision from the Burma govenment with an itinery and proposed plan then off you go. Some how i think that it wont be that easy.

The only areas of concern seem to be at the Tai/ Mya border.

We are hoping to travel through about Nov 07 from Bangladesh to Tai.

Any news then let us know.

Roger,

Use the search at the top right to find extensive advice here on HUBB. It's probably even more difficult than China...

I suggest you email them and see what happens. Be prepared to have to pay a guide (minder) and to have to fly part of the way. Then again, would be nice if all that had changed.

Let us all know how you get on. It sure beats flying the bike.

Had a reply from them already, very quick and looks like being helpful. Myanmar looks like it is opening up a bit, the Tamu crossing from India is "possible" - problem is the Indian side of the border with restrictions on access to the area around Imphal, but its only a bees dick to the border from there.

The Thai crossings are open and already letting in travellers and commercial traders.

no way, acording to this source, annyone knows a alternative?

Dear Mr Riel,

Thanks for contacting us!

But, I don't think your motorcylce is feasible in Myanmar for some reasons.

- You are not likely to be permitted to drive through Imphal to Moreah (India-Myanmar border town) due to skirmishes among the ethnic tribes in the region. We succeeded in doing operation one time 4 years ago. And tried a couple of the in the year with failure by volatile Manipur State.

- you can't drive from Taungyi to Kyaington by yourself in Myanmar.

- I assume that your bike will not suitable with Myanmar bumpy road.

If you are keen to bike in Myanmar, what we can provide is rent a 200Cc bike in Yangon and ride up by yourself. Contact me again if you are interested in that.

Thanks
