We are looking for Clem Lindenmayer who we believe is missing in the area of Kangding, a city on the unofficial border of Tibet in the Sichuan Province of China.

Clem is a 47-year-old, very fit Australian male with a ready smile. He is well built, approximately 183cm (6 feet) tall with grey/brown hair, blue eyes, and a short greying beard. He speaks Mandarin, German, Spanish and English.

Clem is a seasoned traveller with many years trekking experience. He has written walking guides for Lonely Planet, including Trekking in the Patagonian Andes and Walking in Switzerland, and has contributed to updating Lonely Planet’s China guidebooks.

Clem has not been in contact with his family since 2 May. His last email was sent from Kangding and his intention at that stage was to do a six-day circuit around Mount Gongga. If he completed this circuit we would have expected him to be back in contact on or about 10 May, which is now three weeks ago.

Clem's body has been found: his father posted this on Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forum:

The following details have been advised by Clem’s wife Romi Arm, and his brothers Jeffrey and Simon, all of whom are now in Kangding.

"The search that found Clem concentrated on a small area around the eastern Riwuqie track where there had been a number of credible sightings. It seems that Clem had left the track and climbed up a steep slope to a plateau. This is where he died, living the life he loved, amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
All evidence indicates Clem died quickly of natural causes and that he did not suffer.
Romi, Jeff and Simon, in conjunction with officials and others in Kangding, are arranging for his cremation.
Once again we are very grateful for the enormous contribution and support of all Thorntree members. A special thankyou to Salma, Kira, Mieke, Keith, Leon and all those people who took the time to post potential sightings and suggestions. "

This is really sad. My deepest sympathy to his freinds and family. I hope that their loss is somehow lessened in the knowldge that he died doing what he loved. I only hope I will be so lucky when my time comes....
