Trip from Guayaquil Ecuador to Buenos Aires Argentina in mid December.

Hi there, this my first post, so please be gentle with me.

I am wondering if anybody can help?

I'm planning a month long trip from Guayaquil Ecuador to Buenos Aires Argentina in mid December.

What I need to know is:
Can anybody recommend a shipper/agent that can get a motorcycle into Guayaquil Ecuador so it is ready for me to collect on 14th December 2013.
And at the end of the trip 14 January 2014 I need the bike shipped back out of Buenos Aires.
The shippers can have the bike for as long as needed before and after my trip and I can crate or palletize as well as get the bike to a port if required. if this helps keep the costs down.

At the moment the cheapest quote is £1700 each way.

Also are there shippers who will deal with port agents and customs or is this something I will have to sort out?

Does any body know how much I will have to pay in import and local charges

Although I’m a seasoned motorcycle traveller (North America, Europe, Morocco and Vietnam) I would be very grateful for anybody's experience in getting a bike in and out of South America.

Thank you in advance.

Naturally, the answer will vary depending on where you are originating.

I had to ship my KLR from Colorado, USA to Santiago, Chile. I went with TransGroup Global (TransGroup Worldwide Logistics). For me, they would work with my needs originating from Denver, and at the price I wanted to pay. They are on 5 continents, so they might work for you, as well.

Since you enumerated your quote in Pounds Sterling, I assume you are not starting in North America.

The Shipping Thread here might be your best bet. here or ADVRider. But, ADV usually sends these questions over here to the HUBB.

Best of luck. Perhaps we shall see each other in South America, for I shall be motoring around those parts, perhaps at a similar time.

Look for Dakar Motors on google - they are an agent who will look after you very well for shipping out of BsAs and the shipper they use allows you to pay shipping using black market pesos so it makes it very reasonable. All inclusive service means you speak English to Dakar and then ride your bike into the airport where it is crated for you and you're done. Can't recommend Dakar enough.

Your dates seem awfully precise for South Am - you need to be in BsAs at least 4 days to arrange the shipping out, I imagine Ecuador is even sloppier with timings.

Can't comment on Ecuador local charges, but local charges for receiving airfreighted bike in BsAs were around $200-300 from memory earlier this year.

Thanks for everybody's information.

I haven't even looked at how long it is going to take to get the bike through customs at the Ecuador end but it appears that your I would have to be in Buenos Aires for four days prior to shipping.

As I've only got a month and I want to take in a couple of stages of the Dakar I think I'm going to hire a GS from Compass Expeditions.

The hire price isn't that much different to shipping and Jerry from CE seems to have a good local knowledge.
